An Inconvenient Truth Inspires...

Filed in: entertainment

inconvenient-truthSo this is my first blog entry, ever. Choosing to start out my career first blog with Al Gore's film - An Inconvenient Truth - is a pretty hefty topic, but here's the deal: go see it. Go now. Don't wait. While explaining the daunting crisis that Global Warming presents through a presentation he has perfected by going from city to city across the world, former Vice President Al Gore still provides hope and practical steps that we each can take to make a difference. But as one can expect, we have to act now. It was so inspiring to check out this film and know that it has held a place in the box office results that we could have only dreamt of when we started SSF four years ago. Our vision to use pop culture and media to educate and inspire everyone that that can make a difference through the lifestyle choices they make is held evident in this film. So, I guess it is appropriate that this first blog entry of mine really brings home what our mission is. The movie's site, climatecrisis.net, has a ton of information on easy changes you can make in your daily life to help toward being Climate Neutral.

An Inconvienient Truth

Rebecca,
I can't think of a better place to start. I viewed the film on it's opening night here in Seattle. Everyone should see this movie. I am in complete agreement: we have to act now! As a business owner supporting sustainability by selling beautiful, affordable and stylish vintage furniture as well as new items sustainably resourced , I am constantly amazed at the number of people who shop at my store who have never thought about having used furniture in there home until they walked into Collective. One customer just last week wanted to "order" a beautiful vintage bench in a smaller size, she thought it was new. I took the opportunity to talk about vintage and sustainability then watched the lightbulb go on.
Clearly the old models of thinking must change and change quickly.
Education and presentation to the consumer still stuck in the old way of thinking must be a focus. Thank you to Sustainable Style for your beautiful format. I had a great conversation with Sean a few months ago. I will continue to direct as many people as I can to your very important site.
To the planet!
