SSF Spotlight

Welcome to the new home of SSF Spotlight where you can find all sorts of fresh news, information, and resources on sustainbale style. We started this new version of Spotlight in the fall of 2007 because we had SO MANY ENTRIES in our former version that it was exhausting some of our member’s bandwidth. We hope you enjoy this new version and that you find its organization even more useful as you research ways to make more sustainable personal lifestyle choices.

Wishes come true…

Wishful Thinking Exhibit

Los Angeles gallery Project is launching a new exhibit called “Wishful Thinking” featuring holiday card sized artwork from over 50 international aritsts, with all proceeds going to support the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Beautiful art that raises money and awareness for a good cause, very much an SSF wish come true.

ConvoyConvoy’s ‘Sustainable Collective’ line is created with broad elements of sustainability in mind and heart. Where do things come from? How is fabric grown? Where is it made? Where is “away” when something is thrown “away”? Convoy’s designers consider sustainability aspects of look, fabrics, color, packaging, labor, and community. Sustainable style at it’s best we say.

rhizome images…

Ryzhome Images

To date, stock photos promoting sustainability have been just that…stock photos. Well, Rhizome Images has focused in on that problem by “changing the climate of stock photography”.

graphic design stars…

Design Elements, Inc.

Everyone loves some good graphic design now and then. So when the graphically gifted turn their keen eye on doing good, big things happen. Such is the case with Design Elements, Inc. (DEI) . We here at SSF are all about inspiring people to make change with compelling design so its good to know there are folks like DEI out there doing just that.

Big green business

The State of Green Business

GreenBiz has long been THE source for what’s up int eh world of green business. Joel Makower, Co-founder and Executive Editor of Greener World Media, Inc. that produces GreenBiz and other sites, and his team have done it again with their latest publication, The State of Green Business 2008. The who, what, when, where, and how of green business, the report is priceless to those interested on where businesses stand in the whole ‘greening’ effort.

Entertaining Eco-resolutions…

The Daily Green

Annie Bell Muzaurieta at The Daily Green has come up with one of our favorite eco-resolution lists for 2008. No, it won’t leave you eating bland food or working in the dark like some of those other lists. Her list of seven sustainable ideas is both refreshing and revitalizing as it has some pretty novel perspectives on things while having a good time.

Move over hugg…

Mond Body Green Logo

That’s right…move over hugg, now there’s something healther. We here at SSF are and will always be HUGE fans of Treehugger’s sappling review site hugg. But the latest entry into the ‘websurfer-reviewed content’ blogs, MindBodyGreen.com goes beyond musings on just green people, products, and ideas…it extends all the way into our overall mind/body/spirit health. Now those of us that are already diehard Private Practice fans know that mind/body healing is the new rage, so MindBodyGreen will is poised to be a great resource in this area. Yes, these sites are essentially popularity contests, but in this case of MindBodyGreen it means ‘most valuable information’. So go forth, surf, vote, and forward to friends.
