Everyone behind the premiere edition of sass magazine. Sean Schmidt is the Style Ambassador and Co-Founder of the Sustainable Style Foundation*, and the Founding Editor of sass magazine. His diverse interests and experience have led him from studying snow leopards in Ladakh, India, to becoming an international expert on venture capital funds in the former Soviet Union, to fourteen years working at Nordstrom, Inc. At work and in life, Sean is a firm believer in developing one's mind, body and spirit to its fullest extent. He strongly believes that empowering people to make positive change in the world as they express themselves through their individual style choices is a powerful force that truly will improve the quality of life for everyone. Collin Dunn is Editor-in-Chief and Creatologist of sass magazine. Growing up in the mountains of Colorado gave Collin a strong sense of the inherent value of the natural world and the motivation to help preserve it; sass magazine embodies his most recent endeavor toward this ethic. He believes that every person can do something every day to help improve their lives and the world around them. Wes Bowens is Contributing Editor and Chief Snowboard Correspondent at sass magazine. Wes enjoys studying the world around him as he makes his way around the world by bus in pursuit of waist-deep powder, fresh tracks and sunny skies. Lydia DePillis is a junior at Garfield High School in Seattle's Central District. In her high school career, she has enjoyed serving on the Student Advisory Council for YMCA's Earth Service Corps planning the Winter Symposium at Seattle University and this spring's upcoming Earth Summit. Lydia hasn't decided yet whether to study journalism and become a writer or study law and become a lawyer, but she does know that she will be fighting for the environment in whatever career she pursues. Mary Gehlhar is the Fashion Director of Gen Art, a national non-profit dedicated to showcasing and supporting emerging talent in film, fashion,visual art and music. As a specialist the in emerging designer arena, Mary scouts the market for new fashion talent, produces high profile runway shows and acts as an adviser to both the young designer community and to the fashion industry at large. An enthusiast of all areas of design, Mary believes that good design can be not only intelligent in its functionality and aesthetic, but also in its ability to respect our resources, find solutions and educate through beauty. Kim Hoffman has spent 10 years in the fashion industry as a buyer, analyst, importer, designer and entrepreneur. Having worked for a major department store conglomerate, a mid-size luxury retailer, and then having owned a fair-trade import business, she decided to combine her love of natural living and business skills, and evolved to the environmental business arena. She feels passionately that if the problems are rooted in the market, then the solutions are there as well. Currently in sales and marketing at New Leaf Paper, the leader in environmental paper for business use, she focuses on working with the fashion industry, catalogs, and women's health and lifestyle industries. Through an innovative partnership with The Breast Cancer Fund called TREEty, she is working with major paper users to sign on, use cleaner-bleached, planet-friendly paper and understand the connections between the planet's health and women's health. On Earth Day, 2003, Ms. Magazine enthusiastically became the founding signatory and the first women's magazine printed on recycled paper. Rebecca Luke is Senior Stylist and Co-Founder of the Sustainable Style Foundation* and President of Les Egoistes, which she founded in 2000 with 15 years experience in fashion and event production. Rebecca's skills run the gamut from production, public relations and marketing services to art direction, styling, costume design, choreography and visual display. Prior to her full time involvement in fashion and entertainment, Rebecca was executive director of The Homeless Challenge and Development & Events Coordinator for Zion Preparatory Academy. She maintains an active role in the social and environmental issues that affect her community and has committed the resources of her company to further these causes whenever and wherever possible. margereta waterman has been involved with the Red Sky Poetry Theatre, Bumbershoot, the Seattle Small Press Poetry Review, Alternative to Loud Boats, and the Raven Chronicles. She founded the poet’s collective Nine Muses Books, and produced the Manifest Arts peotry video series. Her published books include "some south american colors" and "five songs from the primordial alphabet". |
