preaching to the converted

by margareta waterman

not preachin

singin

not preachers

singers we are

we speak oh yes

and beautifully

but who is addressed?

and who listens?

no conversion

only awakening

we sing

lament as lovely, sung

as sweet love

in the springtime

only awakening

some of us

no separateness

song of all life

horror itself can show

its cancerous beauty

does light argue with darkness,

warmth with cold?

while galaxies spin

and orgasm opens our souls

cancers do arise

head lice reincarnate

we are the ink, words

dark against the page of many colors

who sings may listen

who breathes sings

head lice disturb us

cancers give us fear and pain

voice stretches and resonates

chorus swells with solidarity

singing mitigates the horror

only the heart can heal

we, we are the singers

shadows of the song
