Zelfo: Moldable Biodegradable Material Replaces Plastics
October 23, 2006
Useful for varied implementations, from furniture to musical instruments to jewelry, Zelfo is a 100% biodegradable material made from natural fibers like as hemp, sugar cane, waste paper and textiles using a paper mache-like process.
The treated fibres can be spray-molded to produce the one-piece shapes useful to plastic designers. The finished product is stronger and lighter than many plastics, with wood-like properties, meaning it can easily take nails and screws and can be otherwise finished for a variety of aesthetic effects.
