US Tesco to Build World's Largest Solar Roof
January 23, 2007
Joining forces with LA-based Solar Integrated Technologies, the British supermarket giant Telco is set to build what it claims to be the world's largest solar roof on its new distribution center in California. By the end of the $13 million project, the roof will provide 1/5 of the facility's power.
The array will also save 1,200 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year; Tesco pledged to further spread an environmentally friendly message to its millions of customers and to set an example by spending more than 500 million pounds ($987 million), cutting prices on energy-efficient products and reducing pollution.
