Ridester: Life is a Journey. Share It.
December 20, 2006
Ridester is a community of carpoolers and road trippers that can help you get from city to city while reducing the volume of traffic on the road. The service, which is free to join, features a way to both offer and find rides; drivers set the price and get paid for gas, and riders pay for the lift.
Here's how it works: after logging in and creating a profile that includes travel preferences for gender, age, music favorites, smoking, etc., drivers who are planning a trip list the trip's route, date, estimated departure time and asking price; riders who want to get somewhere can then search by pick up location, drop off location, or by state, and can sign up on the site when a good match is found. It's a great idea for summer road trips or holiday travel.

2008 Ford Escape and Escape Hybrid Feature 100% Recycled Seating Surfaces
December 1, 2006
Made from soda bottle resin, the 100 percent post-industrial recycled polyester fabric featured in the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid is the result of a collaboration between teams at Ford and InterfaceFABRIC to create a more sustainable solution to fabric seating.
The bolster and seating fabrics - named "Eco" and "Nature" - are a dobby weave that is piece-dyed in six colorways exclusive to Ford. Also unique to this fabric construction is a more environmentally friendly backcoating that eliminates more commonly used "reportable" flame retardants (decabrome and antimony trioxide) in favor of phosphorous based retardants, which is typical of InterfaceFABRIC's preference for materials that go beyond compliance and reporting.
