"Freedom Fuels" Documentary, Featuring Daryl Hannah, Now Playing Online
February 13, 2007
Called "Freedom Fuels," a new documentary about alternative fuels, is a collection of interviews and TV news reports that cover the technology and politics of different fuels. Celebrities Daryl Hannah and Willie Nelson are featured, as are clips from "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report."
Biodiesel, straight vegetable oil and ethanol are all covered with a pretty equal balance between commentary and humor. It's not all biofuel and happiness, though; as Daryl Hannah said in the movie, "There are lots of unsustainable ways to produce biofuels," so the clearing of the rainforest for biofuel plants gets some important air time.

EcoBuzz! -- a MySpace for Environmentalists
January 30, 2007
Billing itself as "the first environmental social network supported by a star-studded TV series, Eco 4 the World", EcoBuzz! is like a MySpace reserved for environmentalists. They want you to tell fellow "greenies" what you're doing if you're part of the solution; if you aren't yet, tell people what you are going to do.
EcoBuzz! is by invitation only, but during their testing period, they're allowing users to join the test group; you can learn how by visiting the site. Once in, it's like most any other social networking site; you can build a network of friends and colleagues, talk about things that matter to you, and let the world in on your perspective in the sustainable world.

Ecological Fabrics at Sao Paulo Fashion Week
January 29, 2007
Writing from Sao Paulo's fashion week, WorldChanging's Sarah Rich reports on a two-part exhibition on sustainable textiles presented by an organization called e-fabrics which promotes the production and use of sustainable textiles for the apparel industry.
E-fabrics have developed a certification label that can be earned by textile companies whose practices abide by the e-fabrics criteria, which address sustainability of materials, environmental impact of the production process, respect for cultural diversity and traditions, quality of design and commercial viability. Some of the textiles at the exhibition include "leather" from fish skin (it doesn't stink!), Amazonian rubber for clothing rather than shoe soles, and a treated cotton that takes on the quality of leather but involves no animal products.

London's 2012 Olympics To Be 'Greenest Ever'
January 23, 2007
The London 2012 Olympics are going to be the greenest games in history, according to organizers of the event. With 2,012 days to go (really) to the 2012 Games, the body in charge of construction and design said it would champion low waste, low carbon emissions and green transportation.
Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) chief executive David Higgins said: "Ensuring a sustainable approach to building the Games will help ensure London 2012 is remembered not only as two weeks of fantastic sporting action, but also as the greenest games to date." The ODA claims it will cut emissions to 50% by generating energy on the site and renewable energy. It also said about 90% of the demolition materials will be reused or recycled and at least 20% of materials used in permanent venues and residential areas would be recycled.

The array will also save 1,200 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year; Tesco pledged to further spread an environmentally friendly message to its millions of customers and to set an example by spending more than 500 million pounds ($987 million), cutting prices on energy-efficient products and reducing pollution.
